What is a sankey diagram?

A sankey diagram visualizes flows between stages: money, energy, users. Each ribbon's width is proportional to the amount it carries, so the big movements are obvious at a glance. It is the chart behind the income statement visualizations you see every earnings season.

How do I create a sankey diagram online for free?

Open the MakeCharts editor, add your flows as source, target and amount rows or import a CSV, then adjust colors and labels by chatting with the AI. Export SVG or PNG when you are happy. You can do all of it on the free plan.

Can I import data from CSV or Excel?

Yes. Export your spreadsheet as CSV and import it into the editor. Each row becomes an element of the chart, so there is no manual retyping.

How does the AI editing work?

You describe a change in the chat, like: make all cost nodes red, and the assistant applies it to the chart. You stay in control: every edit is visible, adjustable and undoable.

Is MakeCharts really free?

Yes. The free plan includes the full editor, AI chat, CSV import and 3 saved charts; free exports carry a small watermark. Paid plans remove the watermark and raise the AI limits.

Can I export my chart as SVG or PNG?

Both. SVG is vector, so it stays sharp at any size for slides, reports and print. PNG is handy for docs, emails and social. On paid plans neither carries a watermark.

What chart types can I make besides sankey diagrams?

Bar, line, area, pie, donut, waterfall, treemap and funnel charts, all in the same editor and all editable through the AI chat.

Is my data private?

Your data is stored in your account and used only to render your charts. It is not sold or shared, and deleting a chart deletes its data with it.
